The biggest night in music is back, with the industry’s biggest stars coming together for that honorable nod (except Kanye of course). There were more than a few fails at this years Grammy’s as well as a few wtf moments but if there was one performance that saved the night, it was Beyonce’s. It was a family affair as husband Jay-z and daughter Blu Ivy along with Tina Knowles watched on as queen Bey performed “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles”. Well 2017 is off to one crazy start; all the way from all the Trump protests, to the Mexican wall, now its Queen Bey. Beyonce is making headlines and if she was a Kardashian I would just assume it’s a publicity stunt while waiting for the dust to settle as the truth slowly emerges. But rest assured, when Bey and Jay make headlines it’s because they wanted to. A controlled chaos of sorts. Here’s the latest on Beyonce. Continue reading “Beyonce Announces Pregnancy on Instagram”
Christmas has come early for the lucky few who have acquired a chance to score one of the most prestigious awards any musician can ask for, need a clue? The grammy’s of course! The complete list of nominees was released this morning in all 84 categories and it totally gave me the “did I make it on the list?” vibe. If you’re unable to understand why the Grammy’s are so highly regarded allow me to explain. The Grammy’s is basically the olympics for musicians, without all the live competition. And just like the olympics acknowledges damn near every sport, the Grammy’s leaves no musical category behind. I mean, they even have a category dedicated only to the best of the best surround sound albums. Don’t worry though, they only televise the categories that people actually care about. In wake of the continuous deaths within the black community from police brutality, social media has been saturated with hashtags, opinions and rants. One in particular, “Why don’t more celebrities speak out on social injustices and police brutality”. Today, Twitter is in an uproar over prior statements made by rapper A$AP Rocky. In an interview published by Billboard Magazine back in May 2015, A$AP Rocky stated, “If I’m not going to Ferguson or any of these places — protesting or contributing — I should shut the f—- up. So that’s exactly what I’m going to do. It ain’t my place to speak on it.” Later that year in September 2015, A$AP did an interview with TimeOut where he further stated:
” They’re not forcing me to do shit. I’m just gonna stay black and die. Why, because I’m black? So every time something happens because I’m black I gotta stand up? What the fuck am I, Al Sharpton now? I’m A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist. I wanna talk about my motherfuckin’ lean, my best friend dying, the girls that come in and out of my life, the jiggy fashion that I wear, my new inspirations in drugs! I don’t wanna talk about no fucking Ferguson and shit because I don’t live over there! I live in fucking Soho and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate. I’m in the studio; I’m in these fashion studios; I’m in these bitches’ drawers. I’m not doing anything outside of that. That’s my life”.
A$AP Rocky and several other celebrities to include Kevin Hart, Beyonce, Rihanna, Adam Levine and Alicia Keys to name a few recently spoke out in a very emotional video for the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Due to previous statements from last year, A$AP Rocky received a lot of back lash for comments.
Do you think celebrities sometimes being vocal about societal issues, racism and politics does more harm than good? Here are 5 Reasons Why Many Celebrities Choose Not to Speak:
Beyonce. I could probably begin and end this blog post with just the singer’s name alone but this isn’t about gawking over her illustrious career. Instead we’re going to dissect a little more of the superstar’s now open book marriage and discuss why their infidelity ridden relationship is still better than yours.
Beyonce released a visual for her new album Lemonade and I’ve been in formation since the Super Bowl. I just want Beyonce to know that I died 15 minutes into the premiere. “I can taste the dishonesty on your lips”. Beyonce sends us through the emotions of what appears to be a relationship that has been through the trials of cheating, however, ultimately reaching common ground in the end. Suddenly the whole elevator incident all makes perfect sense and in actuality Beyoncé could be taking us through her own emotions within her relationship with Jay Z. I can’t speak for men, but Beyonce wrapped up all the emotions a woman feels when she has been betrayed by the man she loves.
The entire visual of Beyonce’s album had be questioning what did Jay Z exactly do to Beyonce during their relationship. More importantly, how do you cheat on Beyonce? Either way, Beyonce threw her whole entire soul and being into this album; meanwhile Jay Z officially has 100 problems. I love how she infused the African and Louisiana culture throughout the entire visual. I loved how Warsan Shire’s poetry was quoted throughout Lemonade to portray her various emotions. I noticed a few familiar faces to include Zendaya, Jay Z, Winnie Harlow, Quvenzhabe Wallis and Amandla Stenberg to name a few. Beyoncé also incorporated some of the families that have been affected by police brutality to include Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin’s mother) and Al Jazeera America ( Michael Brown’s mother). Below are the different emotions that Beyoncé takes us through during the visual:
It’s only the second month in the new year and for Beyonce, this is going to be one of her best years yet. With a looming super bowl performance (her 2nd to mention) and a new single “Formation” that just dropped this morning, of course accompanied by a video, Beyonce still likes to remind us (not that we can forget) that she still sits on the throne of greatness.
