“What Would Diplo Do” will be Viceland’s first ever scripted series and first comedy as well. Diplo continues to show people that he’s more than a DJ and it never ceases to surprise me how he doesn’t aim to stay in one lane. The series will be based on a “A Day in the Life”, which was a short video released in June 2016 to promotes Diplo’s Mad Decent Block Party [ VIDEO BELOW].
The video features former Dawson’s Creek cast member, James Van Der Beek, impersonating Diplo which ironically wasn’t half bad. In the series, James Van Der Beek will be playing a version of Diplo. According to Deadline, the series will be “a collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of a guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet but kind of sucks one on one “. Diplo is already a legend in the EDM scene and has collaborated with a variety of mainstream artists ranging from Beyoncé to Madonna. James Van Der Beek will officially be making his debut back to acting through this series but, it is also noted that he wrote it himself. In addition, both Diplo and James Van Der Beek will be executive producing the project. Diplo’s manager Kevin Kusatsu and music director Brandon Dermer will also be apart of the production of this new series. “What Would Diplo Do?” is set to make its debut later this year.
