I’m sure Ruth B, formally known as Ruth Berhe, would have never imagined that Vine would turn her into a Pop Star; instantly giving her millions of fans all over social media. Ruth B is a Canadian singer from Edmonton, Alberta and she posted her first video on Vine back in 2013. A year later, she began posting short 6 second clips of her singing covers to popular songs. In November 2014, Ruth B posted a short clip of her singing a line that was inspired by the television series Once Upon a Time. The vine grew in popularity and her supporters were pretty much dying to hear a complete song. By January 2015, Ruth B posted the complete song, titled Lost Boy ,on YouTube [ WATCH BELOW] and it was also released on iTunes the following month. At this point, there was an overwhelming amount of other artists on Vine and social media posting covers to the song, which continued to fuel Ruth B’s popularity.
By July 2015, Ruth acquired so much attention that she was signed to Columbia Records. Ruth B’s EP titled, The Intro, was released later that year in November and features four songs to include Lost Boy .
As of today, Ruth B has reached #24 on the US Hot 100 chart and she has recently performed in London as of yesterday. Ruth B’s success proves that your passion can ultimately turn into your career with a little bit of creativity and hard work. There are so many artists that post videos on social media and end up stopping because, they aren’t getting a multitude of likes, comments and shares. On August 3rd, 2016, Ruth B be shared her thoughts on Twitter with saying,” I’m just a person who loves music and somehow the world picked up on that…..”. If you love something and are passionate about your craft, the world will pick up on it. Therefore, it’s important to never get caught slacking or give up. You’ve already lost the fight when you throw in the towel.
